Thursday Thirteen

This is my first addition to the Thursday Thirteen on March 13th.

And I was thinking, which can be very dangerous, what 13 interest will I post. Well, this is what I decided to do, I have small, sometimes strange collections and so since my blog is called Jerri's Junque, here is a look into some of my junque.
1. I love the colbolt blue bottle. And when people know this they gift them to you.
2. I have a small collection of Dice. This started when I was creating projects with game boards. and I just put them in a bowl. Collection started.
3. The green glass is a memory of my grandmother Ida. So I collect them, when I can get them at a good price.
4.Sea shells and small sea shell boxes. Did I tell you I love the beach?
5. So there is also a collection of pink flamingos, to go along with the sea theme. Some are bells and some are Salt and Pepper shakers.
6. The baby on the toilet is a odd collection. I like odd things, mostly small things. Like a rocking horse and a couple of ducks. I can't explain this collection.
7. Handkerchiefs- collected them to make a curtain to go in the grandmother room, now DD is back home and this has been put on hold.
8. I love these little pot holders, with the red roses. I even have a pillow cover and apron.
9. Remember the little notebooks your grandfather had in his front shirt pocket. Well, this is also a collection. Some are blank and some are written in. Some men wrote everything in his little book.
10. White pottery, I know she has a little red on her, and it makes her stand out. And I like it.
11. The tray these items are on is also a collection. I love the old white, trimmed in red enamel.
12. It is hard to see but there is a little salt and pepper with a turquoise lid. This a also a mini collection. This means I only have 6 or so.
13. And #13 collection is packed away, because DD has moved back in, I collect Tutwiler Hotel postcards and paper work. Like menus, envelopes ect. This hotel was built in Birmingham many years ago in the 20's or 30's and was tore down in the 70's. I remember watching it on T.V.
So now you have slipped into the wacky world of Jerri's Junque. Not all of my items are strange, and most was started because I can't throw things away, or let go of them. Oh, there is many more and there always will be, I guess i am just a junque collector.

Tag! 123 Meme

Jenn you know the saying that paybacks are He!!

Thanks for the tagging Jenn.

Per Jenn:Pick up the nearest book of 123 pages or more (no cheating).Find page 123.Find the first 5 sentences.Post the next three sentences.Tag 5 people. It has to stop here, so I will not be tagging anyone. You can thank me with chocolate. Here is my book.

Well, let's see there is a dictionary, a cookbook, phonebooks and papers. Lots of papers. But no books. So I will turn my chair to the nearest bookshelf. Oh, here they are and closing my eyes, I pull out Miracles- poems by children-collected by Richard Lewis. Where did this come from? I don't remember this book, as I see the red Thrift store price. So looking for page 123, a poem about trees:

It shrinks, twists, sways

as it's nearly ready to fall,

till at last its time has come

for it hits the mighty ground.

It's nearly daybreak

and the tree is still there

as it gradually crumbles away,

till at last it is gone

and nothing has begun

for that lonely tree.

-John Hunter, age 12

Well, you ask for it, but to save the day , here is a pic of the snowman hubby built on Saturday. I wanted to play in the snow and hubby joined me. We were like kids again, if only for a few minutes.

Fun Monday is being hosted by I.T. Guy this week.

Here is his idea:Give me 5!!I need YOU (yes, the wonderful YOU!) to pick 5 memorable lines from 5 different movies (if you could tell us which character said it and to whom, would be a bonus)...and tell us to WHOM (who in the people in your life) you could have said those lines.

Fried Green Tomatoes*

We are older and have more insurance

Steel Magnolias*

Clairee: Hit this! Go ahead M'Lynn, slap her!

Divine Secrets of Ya Ya*

Why doesn't someone go to the bathroom?

It always makes the food come.

Bridges of Madison County*

Robert Kincaid: Don't kid yourself Francesca: you are anything but a simple woman.

Men in Black*

Jay: You do know Elvis is dead, right?

Kay: No, Elvis is not dead. He just went home.

The members of Daughters of the Nile are proud of the record of generosity and are dedicated to their philosophy of “working together for the children.” By continuing our unwavering support of Shriners Hospitals, Daughters of the Nile are doing their part to help children lead better lives.

This picture is of a few of my fellow clowns. They were at the hospital, celebrating the 80th year of the Greenville Hospital. There was a carnival for the children And these ladies was getting ready
to paint faces.
We had a wonderful time but what was important, the children had more fun!
I have these ladies on my mind because, yesterday I had a young lady come into my shop, a regular and tell me she was a Shriners Kid.
I love hearing that we have helped.
This is why I am a

Tag your it!
I have been tagged by Jeri over at
What if's?
1. What is I could meet someone in the art world to chat with? This is easy, it would be Tim Holtz, I did take every class he offered at CKU in Nashville last year. So I have meet him, but to chat in his studio and look over his shoulder would be #1.
2. What if I could have one wish granted to benefit all mankind? This is a hard one! I know world peace has been said so I have to say someone worth a Sh!# to run for president. Enough said.
3. What if I could travel anywhere in the world? All my friends would say, she is going to say the beach again. But I am going to surprise you and say Ireland. The more I read about Ireland and watch on T.V and on the movies. The hill are alive with the sound of music, no I think that was Switzerland. Anyway, I would pick Ireland.
4. What if I could live in a period other than the present, for 24 hours? I would have to say the 40's, I love the dresses of that era, the prim and proper . Can you tell I am a old movie freak. Give me a old movie and I am a happy camper. My fav is The unsinkable Molly Brown.
5. What if I could make over three areas of my body? My Butt, My Butt and tummy.
6. What if I could become an animal for 24 hours? A mermaid, I love the beach.( fiction) A eagle that can fly, free as a bird. (ha)
7. What if I could bring back someone to life for 24 hours? I have lost all of my grandparents, and believe me I would love to talk to all of them for 24 hours. So I can't pick just one. But a hug from my paw paw always made me feel good.
Now it is time to choose a couple of people to carry on this tag so

Monday, March 03, 2008

I have been busy today, I think I have my creative groove back. I have been in a slump and I believe I am pulling my self out. This is a tag, I created using a free image on my friend Jeri's blog .
She is a amazing mixed media artist. You might want to check her out sometime.
Oh, I am so honored to have been chosen, I want to thank my family , my friends, and my god .
With out you I would be a blogger without this award. haha
No really Thank you Jennifer for thanking of me. And I would be even more thankful if your hubby never knew I was the one that got you started in bloggin. But it keeps us off the streets. And our families always know where we are, at the computer.
Now, I must tell you what we did on the most beautiful Sunday of the year, ( so far). We went to auction, almost in Tenn. Ric only has 4 auctions or so a year and he has items that are differnt. Alot of his items are brought in from other states and I have been in the hunting and gathering mood lately. Sorry, I do not have pictures, we took everything by the shop yesterday. But maybe tomorrow. I did get a few boxes of paper, tools, glassware and coke crates ect. Oh, it was a fun day. It has been awhile since hubby and I had a day alone. It was a good thing!
Have a great day everyone.

Show and Tell Below
I need to join this swap at Vintage Indie so to do so I have to answer a few guestions.
a. What's your favorite part of spring? The flowers, and being outside working with the dirt. And all the spring colors in the stores.
b. What are your favorite flowers? Shasta Dasiy, I love all the beautiful colors. Although I never work with these bright colors.
c. What types of hobbies/crafts do you enjoy? I enjoy all kind of paper crafts, I started out scrapbooking and adding unique items to my pages.
d. What types of vintage do you collect or look for? I love to find old hats with the soft color flowers, if they are damaged I buy them and use the flowers. Buttons are always a must and vintage cards and paper items.
e. Any allergies or things that you absolutely can't stand? I am pretty lucky not to be allergic but I do not like all the yellow ick on my car, porch and outdoor items.
Today is Show and Tell Time, so sit back and enjoy all the great post. This is not a expensive piece and you may reconize it as a Home Interior piece.
But I bought it because it reminds me of my childhood. I can remember fighting over who would sit on the ice cream freezer. I have a cuz that is about my age and we were the ones to sit on the freezer. But paw paw would turn the handle. When cuz was sitting on the freezer I was right next to him waiting my turn. And he was always waiting on me too. Oh, how simple it was in....let's just say .....then. Now my cuz lives in Texas, it has been many years since we saw each other. He has just started a family and I have grandchildren.

FUN MONDAY!
It's that time again, join Mariposa at
What's in a name and What's in your plate?
Well, a scrappie friend came up with the Jerri's Junque, can't really remember what we were talking about at the time, maybe dreaming of opening a shop . The name was filed away in my small pea sized brain until I started this blog. I even tried to name my antique/junk shop, Jerri's junque and hubby said it would relay the wrong message, of just junk and no antiques.
Alot of junk and not as much antiques is fine with me.
That's the part I like anyway.
What's on your plate?
Well, just about anything, I am not picky.
But for the last few years, I have became chocolate crazy.
Dip it in chocolate and i will eat it, lay a piece of chocolate next to it and I will eat it.
So let me end this by going to my chocolate calendar and leaving you with a chocolate quote for today.
At the top of the food chain sits chocolate.

Show and Tell Friday
This is a picture of me and my sister, Ramona at my grandparent's in the country. We loved coming to the country, playing outside and pretending. Oh, how we could pretend, and grandmother ( Ida) always had a box of old discarded clothing for us to play with. We built houses in the barn with the square bales of hay, and wouldn't come home until we were called. Hours was spent building and pretending to live in the country. Mom and Dad built in the country in 1970, next to my grandparents.
I have that cast iron cook pot, in my yard now, in the country. Hubby and I built our house in what they called the hay field 1993. This old farm in the country has changed so much, dad had to tear down the barn, about 16 years ago, for safety reasons. And my grandfather, Garnet ( jennifer, how do you like that name?) use to plow the field, where my house stands. Yes, alot has changed, but still I enjoy pretending in the counrty.

WORDLESS WEDNESDAY

It is offical, we have the flu.
We were in the doctor office for 2 and a half hours yesterday afternoon and night, they have night clinic. The 3 year old was tested postive for the flu and said if anyone else in the house is having symptoms, they most likly have it too. I spent the most miserable night last night, awake every hour, I thought it would never end.
But on the up side,
I have been Tagged by Jennifer over @ http://www.dustbunnyhostage.blogspot.com/
It's called 5*5*5*5*5 book meme
Go on over and check her entry out, after you read mine.
I will put a twist on it, can you quess what book I have picked?

"Can I give you a hand with something?"
He answered over his shoulder.
"Sure, How about cutting up some vegetables for the fryer.
There is plenty in the ice box, and you can find a bowl over there.

Okay it is only 4 sentences, but then it goes on about the bowl by the sink.
This should be enough.
I will give you a hint.
It is not Bridges of Madison County, but it does sound like the scene in the kitchen, drinking a beer, before dinner. Man, maybe I need to re-read Bridges.
I will post it in the comments tonight what book it is.
Hope you have a great day.

As yesterday was Presidents Day and the children was out of school, we disconnected ourselfs from the outside world. Everyone of us are battling this ick and no one feels like much anyway. I noticed the Hallmark channel was showing Swiss Family Robinson and Pollyanna. Surprisingly, it held Maliks attention for 3 hours, he didn't care alot about Pollyanna and went back to this video game. But we all enjoyed our movie time, and I enjoyed the fact that it was my type of movie.
Way to go Halmark Channel for the movie selection and time with my grandsons.

*Happy Birthday *!
Sunday was Malik's 10th Birthday
It rained all day and we all have a touch of some kind of cold/sore throat kind of thing.
So I baked him his favorite cake, Red Velvet and he stayed in his room all morning trying to master the game he got on Saturday night for his birthday. So excited to be out of school today so he can continue to play game.
I just want to say, how proud I am of you. You are growing into a wonderful, kind hearted and thoughtful young man. You think of others, and have a heart of gold. I can't believe you are 10, it seems only yesterday that I carried you to the nursery after you were born. You captured my heart at that very moment. I pray so hard that God will give you strength to forgive, except, love and endure all things. You have proved to us over and over again you have a strong faith, and we pray you will let him guide you throughout your life.
I love you , little man

I wanted to share these pictures of my livingroom, It is a very small room, since we knocked out a wall and took most of it for my studio. But no one ever uses it and it is my show place. To show off my treasures. I love to read about Ireland and the rolling green hills, the cottages and to visit there is a dream of mine. So until I do, I have created alittle cottage of my own. Enjoy the tour.

Sniff Sniff, what is that smell? Is it? could it be, naw, it can't be LOVE.

Well, it is that time of the year. Time for men to leap out of their element and try to guess what we, women want them to say and do for one of the most romantic days of the year.
I love my hubby with all my heart, and if possible I love him more with each day. He was a romantic, and remembered all the little dates. Like our first kiss and first offical date. When he ask me to marry him. But as the years, have passed, he has changed. I have changed. We are happy, and in love. But sometimes, a girl wants the romance back, if for only one day a year.
Last night he ask, And what do you want for Valentines?
Do you know what this means?
He will stop by Winn Dixie and get what is left. He will get a card and sit in the parking lot of the store and try and write something that will make me jump into his arms and say "I love you".
Just like alot of other men that knows they better not come home empty handed.
And you know, I will.
Because I love him, with all my heart.
Happy Valentines Day!

Show and Tell Friday
So I thought I would take pics of the familyroom. And tell you about my favorite's.
This picture was a auction find over a year ago. I was so giddy about getting her, and hubby was shaking his head. And for only $5.00. This grand Lady inspired the colors for the room makover. No matter she was damaged, if it has cracked paint or worn smooth, this is my type of goodies.

These are a few of my sea shells, I have collected over the years. Sorry the pic is blurry.
And this sign was another auctions find. I don't care if it was made from a headboard, it just spoke to me. Now I am on the hunt for a end table a lamp, sconces and a rug. And then the room will be complete. Well, maybe I need a few more sea shells.
Hubby never says a word about my re-decorating a room. Because when I decide to change, I will just sell it at the shop. There is bound to be someone with my taste out there, somewhere.

This beautiful young lady became apart of our
family when she was only 4 years old, when
my brother married her mom. Several years
later she was diagnosed as a juvenile diabetic.
She graduated high school last year, and started
nursing school last fall. Her health has declined
the last year and tonight she is in CCU. The doctors
think her kidneys are trying to shut down. Please
keep Elisabeth in your prayer tonight.
Boy, what a week! There is major
rearranging and redoing at the
shop this week, daughter has the flu
or something like it, basketball
pratice every night, getting ready
for the first game on Friday night
and just everyday chaos.

Here are the pics of my recent Estate and Junkin trips.
I love love love the glass place cards, can't you just see them at a luncheon, before bridge, with the girls.

This little fellow, just stole my heart.
And I love odd pin cushions, the heart box, well, it's Valentines. Maybe a nice man with buy it to put a large diamond in it, for his sweetie.

Love old packs of needles, and even a lady needs a pretty swiss army knife, of sorts.

This find, was actually found by Jennifer. Or she pointed it out. The wine rack was a thrift store find. I recently had bought 3 cases of unused wine bottles, don't ask. I will tell you, we live in the country and alot of guys make wine, and women too. Passes the time I guess. As we opened the boxes, we noticed they are all cobolt blue, they made a outstanding display. The two pictures were bought for the frames, but I kinda like them both. And the coal bucket will sell fast, good color and still useful.
Well, I am already looking in the paper for this weekend sales. Maybe I won't miss the auction house that burnt.
Happy Thursday.

Went Junkin yesterday and the car was full, but not packed. I believe we could have gotten a few more things in , but we ran out of time. Jennifer and I had a good time, we both needed to get out and about, you know girl time.

As the day wore on and we were getting hungry and tired, we found humor in everything. This sign just cracked us up.

I dropped everything at the shop yesterday so pictures tomorrow.

I will leave you with this little story.

SOMEBODY'S RAISING THEIR KID RIGHT!

One Nation, "Under God".

One day a 6 year old girl was sitting in a

classroom. The teacher was going to explain

evolution to the children. The teacher asked

a little boy: Tommy do you see the tree

outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

TEACHER: Tommy, do you see the grass

outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

TEACHER: Go outside and look up and see if you can see the sky.

TOMMY: Okay. (He returned a few minutes later) Yes, I saw the sky.

TEACHER: Did you see God up there?

TOMMY: No.

TEACHER: That's my point. We can't see God because he isn't there. Possibly he just
doesn't exist.

A little girl spoke up and wanted to ask the boy some questions.

The teacher agreed and the little girl asked
the boy: Tommy, do you see the tree outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

LITTLE GIRL: Tommy do you see the grass
outside?

TOMMY: Yessssss!

LITTLE GIRL: Did you see the sky?

TOMMY: Yessssss!

LITTLE GIRL: Tommy, do you see the teacher?

TOMMY: Yes

LITTLE GIRL: Do you see her brain?

TOMMY: No

LITTLE GIRL: Then according to what we were taught today in school, she possibly may not even have one!

(You Go Girl!)

Just thought i would show you a picture of a great spread I got at a Estate Sale on Sunday. It was so busy that it was hard to get around, but I pushed my way on through, Sunday is 1/2 off day. It is so hard to get to these sales with the shop but Hubby and I wanted to get out for awhile. You know he had to get back to watch the Super bowl. On the way home I ask, Who is playing? you should have seen the look I got. Anyway, got a few more little things, will post tomorrow. Going junkin again today. Wish us luck.

Welcome to Show and Tell Friday!

These are my collection of Hankerchiefs, that all started with the first one being my grandmothers. It is stained because she dipped snuff, but it is a treasure just the same. When I was a child grandmother would fill a empty and cleaned ( I hope ) snuff can with cocoa and sugar for the me to play with. There was also a box of old clothing that we would play dress up . It was so much fun to pretent to be a grown up. I believe I still have one of her snuff cans and a picture of me and sister all dressed up. It was so much fun to come to the country and play.

This is a few items, I won at the auction on Saturday night. I wasn't paying attention and I heard them say letter set. So I threw my hand up ( I can use these in my scrapbooking, I thought) And I got them, and a the rest for $5.00. But now as I look at them closer, I might put them on E-bay. I also got a sofa, to be recovered and another post. Got a new calender for Christmas- ( thanks Jenn) with chocolate Quotes. So I am leaving you with Chocolate for thought, get it, instead of food 4 thought...
Anyway...........
I often lie awake at night wondering if in this huge mysterious universe there might be planets with nicer chocolate than ours.- anonymous

Valentine Tip
With Valentine just around the corner, I wanted to share a tip.
When Grandson #1 was about 5, the Valentine Bandit came to visit every morning starting
Feb 1st. He would leave a heart cover pencil or a sticker, something inexpensive. The child looked so forward to it that he jumped out of bed ready and eager for 14 days. ( which was a reward for us, he has never been a easy child to get up, and still isn't)
On Valentine's day, he woke up to a curtain of hearts hanging in his doorway, and a Valentine Cupcake.
He still talks about the Valentine Bandit.
Why don't you play bandit, you can be the Valentine Bandit to your hubby, or friend that needs cheering up.
Give this a thought .
I think I will once again pull out that bandit mask, so beware the Valentine Bandit may strike again.

Sunday, January 27, 2008

Last night we celebrated the 10th anniversary of the auction we buy the bulk of our stock for the store. I lost out on a gallon jar of buttons, $30.00 was too much for my pocketbook. We did buy a beautiful antique sofa, which needs recovering. BUT....
This morning I got a e-mail that the auction house had been destroyed by fire. As I sat there last night ( as I have many times) I looked at the large skylight and tried to decorate this big open space into my home. This was a old store but it had many many more years left in it. They will re-build or move the auction but I hate to see a old building gone forever. Goodbye old friend.

Just a quick post of the goodies I got in the mail on Friday from my friend and swap partner Dianna. I have already been playing with the contents. I had my camera with me at the shop and took pictures in stages. It is so cute and I love it!

Thanks Dianna!

I have been doing this wrong all along.

But if you are reading this please stop by and help me off the floor.

Wednesday, January 23, 2008

Tag you it!
I have been tagged by my friend Jennifer, now I have to do for her since I had a hand in her starting her blog. So in away it is my fault. So here it goes....
1. I have been telling my hubby that I am going through the change for about 5 years now. It is the only way I can explain my out burst of anger. But it is usually when he leaves his underwear in the floor next to the hamper. Boy is he in for a shock when I do really go through it.
2. I need to Think less- I can make a mountain out of a mole hill. In my head anyway.
3.I love flowers, I love to get flowers. I don't care if they will die in a day or two, I just like them. And I buy them for myself alot. Not from the florist but just at Wal-mart.
4. I don't have friends my own age. They don't get me.
5.I am obsessed with my weight. I always have been. I cry almost weekly. I go on a diet every week. This has been going on for years. And I just watch my scales move higher each week. I have been on a so called diet for 2 weeks, I have gained a pound each week.
Per #2 Think less
6. I want a new car, but without payments. But the thing is I want a convertible. A sports car. A red convertible. I want the scarf flying in the wind. My hair blowing behind me. ( I have short hair) But I want it...... Now how can I go junkin and buy anything and get it home in a convertible. I have the answer, I can just put the top down....
7. I will eat anything once. I have tried squirrel dumplings, gator, raw fish, squid and much more. But it may be a one time meal. Life is too short, not to enjoy all of it.
Okay Jennifer you ask for it.

Tuesday, January 22, 2008

This is one of the Many items you will create when you join Teresa Mcfayden- Winter Bella. I made this one while we were waiting for snow to hit Alabama. As you seen in my last post NO SNOW. So I will hang my little snowman and women on my door in hopes of another chance. I have told my hubby the reason we did not get snow was because he was a non believer. Short post today, have been having back spasms all weekend and sitting at the computer doesn't help.

Happy Tuesday!
