Funny Sunday

Friday, April 25, 2008

Can you believe it is Friday already.
And time for Show and Tell.
So I am still at the strawberry patch helping out so this is what i have seen this week and now I am going to tell you about it.
I have always loved old barns and farm items. So I took a walk and shot a few pictures of a old barn, covered in brush. The simplicity of a trailer tire, or a patch of clover, do you see the beauty in it too. Simple things we take for granted, seems to mean more to me than a posed sitting.
The old barn is past it's prime and isn't used anymore, but she still has a beauty about her. She has been used up, she sheltered the herd, kept the rain off the tractors, stored hay for the animals, and protected mama's giving birth. Today there is no animals on this farm, it is strictly a produce farm.
But the old barn can stand tall with pride, it has stood the test of time.
Take a walk with me.

This is my niece, Kindra.
Look at those little fat cheeks.
This is my favorite picture of her as a child.
This is Kindra today, well at Christmas, with her sweetie John Paul.
They are so cute!
She has been wanting me to come to Auburn to visit her at college. So today her mother and I are going for a short visit.
She graduates in May, I almost waited too long.
I want to say how proud I am of her.
I ran across this poem last week and thought of her.

A strong woman works out everyday to keep her body in shape…

But a woman of strength builds relationships to keep her soul in shape

A strong woman isn't afraid of anything…

But a woman of strength shows courage in the midst of fear.

A strong woman won't let anyone get the better of her…

But a woman of strength gives the best of herself to everyone.

A strong woman makes mistakes and avoids the same in the future…

A woman of strength realises life's mistakes can also be unexpected blessings, and capitalises on them

A strong woman wears a look of confidence on her face…

But a woman of strength wears grace.

A strong woman has faith that she is strong enough for the journey…

But a woman of strength has faith that it is in the journey that she will become strong.

I love you,

It is Show and Tell Friday again so sit back and enjoy.
Some of you know I have a small junk/antique shop, but do you know I also help out at the Strawberry patch in the Spring?
And it is that time.
It all started 9 or so years ago, Dad ( Jerry D) retired, sat in his chair for almost 6 months. We had started to get worried, but one day he got up, went to the store and stopped to visit a old friend. This friend ( Jerry M) has a farm and stand to sell his crops. They talked and talked. Dad came home and told Mom, I think I am going to help out alittle at the farm, this Spring. That was the start of a great adventure.
We all help out.
Yesterday we opened the Strawberry Patch for the season.
So if you have the means and like strawberries, they are ready in North Alabama.
Buy Produce from your local farmers.
On the funny side, I go over to answer the phone and deal with the customers. I was named after my Dad, Jerry. And the man with the farm is Jerry M.
Phone calls are interesting, to say the least.

It is time to Show and Tell and it is getting harder and harder for me.
But today I have a picture of a tree.
It was a ordinary tree, a pine tree. And very common everyday pine tree in Alabama. And I wanted a not so ordinary tree in my yard. I wanted a tree that people would ask questions or at the very least take a moment to think, " What was she thinking"?.
So take a look, everyone else does. Now it is not a ordinary tree, she stands out. She has her jewels, adornments, bling bling, if the sun hits it just right.
We do live off the road, and most of my family and friends know how I think. But I do wonder what the Power meter reader or the UPS man thinks.......

It is Fun Monday over at Jo Beaufoix and this is what she wants me to try and remember.

“I want to know about your first ‘celebrity’ crush. You know, the one you fancied from that band, or that film, or who read the news, or who won Gold at the Olympics.
Did you have their pictures on your wall or in your locker?
Did you dress like them, style or colour your hair like them, follow them, meet them, marry them? (It could happen.)
Photos of THEM would be good, photos of YOU at the time you liked them would be even better.

Boy, this is alot to ask, I read the challenge a hour or so ago and it has been tough coming up with something. So here is goes.....................

Chad Everett in Medical Center 1969- as Dr. Joe Gannon

I can remember being on the phone talking to a friend about how cute he was. I was 9, a preteen at the time and a on the verge of becoming a women of the world.

And then there was Bobby Sherman, Donny Osmond and Davis Cassidy. All the Tiger Beat articles I read and all the little pictures I cut out and hung on my wall. Oh, I just knew one of these hunks was going to get stranded in Cleveland Alabama and fall head over heels in love with little ole me. We would jet off to Hollywood and live in the spot lights. He would hold me at night and sing to me, ME ....flashback.......

New Project
On Friday, it was raining and yucky, and I needed something to do. So I looked around the shop and found this frame. From the 80's ( didn't we all have them or maybe still do). I know I still have one with my wedding pictures in it, behind a sofa or in a closet. Maybe I will give new live to it.
I think it turned out great and Grandson #2 was tickled to have more pictures of him on my wall.
Sorry for the glare, this was my best picture.

Show and tell Friday
It is that time again, so sit back and enjoy.
I LOVE buttons! I won't pass up a jar of buttons at a Estate sale or Auction. And it all started, when my aunt was downsizing and she gave me a jar of buttons. She said there was some in there from my grandmother. SO this started to obsession with buttons. I have jars full, separated in colors, of course. I don't have alot of mother of Pearl or diamond studded buttons. It is the ones that came off of a work shirt and there is still a piece of the shirt attached, that I like. Where the lady of the house has cut the buttons off the shirt before putting it in the rag basket. Grandson #2 is 3 and when he comes into my studio and wants to play, I open a jar of buttons and he can entertain his self for a few minutes anyway. And then he is off to find something else to get into.
I just love my buttons!
Button Button who's got the Buttons, that would be me......

3. I got out my notebook. Subject- 13 friends. No, I can't do that, it will hurt someone if I left them out. Scratch that!
4. Next page- Subject- 13 saying. Like Hunky Dorie or Lickey Split. That is the only 2 I came up with. Next page.
5. Got it! 13 things I have created lately, well, that won't work, I am in a slump.
6. 13 thing that make me happy......well lets see.......I am not happy! I am frustrated trying to come up with 13 things.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you see where this is going......moving on....
10. It was time to go pick up Grandson #1 @ school, and I saw a really cute car....Convertible, I have got it. 13 cars I would like to own, if there is no payments. Reality set in and now I am moving on....
11. Grandson curled up in a chair for a nap, he looked so relaxed and cute. Don't they all look cute when they are asleep. Grabbing my camera, No, I can't take 13 picture of him, no one but Nanny would want to see them.
12. DD had picked up Alvin and the Chipmunks yesterday. Maybe 13 movies I like. Did we do that already, I think we did.
13. By this time, I was at home with my feet up, watching Alvin and the Chipmunks with grandsons. And I have nothing. So this morning as I sit at my computer ,
I still have nothing, maybe next week I will participate.
Happy Thursday!

Wordless Wednesday

Tuesday, April 01, 2008

I tend to look at items, treasures in a different way, lately. Earrings, especially costume, blinging ear bobs are great for center of flowers. So are buttons, bottle caps, game pieces, small pebbles, push pins and so on. The items I use in my projects have changed in the last year or so, although I have used vintage paper in my scrapbooks for years, bloggin is the way to see how others have used these unique items in their art. Above is a altered canvas I created to be auctioned off for Autism Awareness, at CKU Nashville last summer. Do you see the ear bobs ? ( as my granny would say) The trading stamps? And the old letter. There is even a piece of a dress pattern.
It is going to rain today, and I won't have many customers, so I think I will alter a canvas. Won't you join me?
