Last night we had a program a church and a speaker.
A man that had grew up in our community in the 30's.
He is now a story teller.
This is one of his stories.
I was born March 31, 1936
My daddy was in his 60's when I was born.
It cost $25.00 for old doc Brown to come to the house and deliver me.
And $25.00 was the money daddy needed to get fertilizer to start the years crop.
After a day or two, when daddy thought it was okay to leave Mama, he cut a trail to Oneonta.
His hope was to get the fertilizer he needed, but he didn't know how cause he had no money.
There was 2 shops that carried fertilizer in Oneonta, one was his friend Steve and the other was owned by his friend Frank.
So daddy stopped in to see Steve first.
As daddy stepped in the door, Steve yelled from the back for daddy to come on in.
I hear you have a new baby in your house.
Yes, daddy said
Steve ask, What did you name it?
Daddy said, Well you know you are my best friend Steve, so I named that baby Steve.
Steve laughed and ask how much fertilizer he needed.
Daddy told him he had no money, and Steve said, no worries, you can pay me in the fall.
So with half the fertilizer daddy went on to see Frank.
As he stepped in the door, Frank yelled from the back, I hear you have a new baby boy out at your place.
What did you name him?
Daddy said, Frank you are one of by best friends, so I named him after you.
So Steven Franklin was named.
But as he was growing up he had to defend is name a few times,
cause boys just called him fertilizer for short.
Take the time to Listen today to a story.

Here is a pic of a few items i picked up at a local auction a week or so ago.
Trying to get ready for our
Spring Cleaning Sale on Saturday.
So I planted flowers and make outdoor things all weekend.
I love planting flowers in enamel pots and in things you wouldn't thing of planting flowers in.
And they always sell pretty good too.
While we were out on Saturday night, hubby got proposed to.
Apparently the girls was on a scavenger hunt for a bridal shower. And had to propose to someone. So if he goes through with it maybe she will do the laundry.
HA HA
I am so enjoying this beautiful warm weather, hard to believe last week it was 31 degrees one morning.
Practicing for a Pink Lodge performance again,
May 9th
at Hewitt North Birmingham Lodge.
Pink Lodge is a play about what the woman think the men are doing in Lodge, really funny.
I am the door knocker, and no one gets in or out with out me knocking on the door.
Oh, and did I tell you I have a speech problem.
Really a funny skit.
Enjoy your week

Where is a man in tight and a cape when you need one?

Let me start out by saying

I have a fear of birds!

When they are in my shop, flying in my space.

Now, get your self off the floor and stop laughing.

I could not be the only one.

As I went into the shop yesterday, it was a beautiful day, so I propped the door open to let some of the old store smell out and fresh air in.

And low and behold a bird flew in.

I stood still, thinking.....

Would hubby leave work and drive 40 miles to save me?

Could I call 911, would they send the rescue squad?

Should lock up and go home?

What kind of note would I put on the door?

SUCK IT UP, GIRL!

Put on you big girl panties and deal with it!

SO I grabbed the broom, and chased that silly thing around the store for ever.

Then I called hubby, just to see if he was willing to come home, or had an idea.

Let's just say, he ain't coming!!!!

So I tried to do some work, an ignore that little thing.

It kelp flying around and I squealed like a little girl each time.

A male customer came in, I told him about the bird, not about my fear.

He said, Let me look at him.

He did and said. " oh, it's a sparrow and you will never get it out of here, it will just die in here".

I was thinking, all along, Oh no! with a panic look on my face.

No tights, on that man!

after he left I decided to try once more.

NO LUCK
then in came Linda, bring items for her booth.

She is my Super hero.

She made me hold the broom and not let it back to the back room, her daughter came by and each time it flew toward us we screamed.

But it went out.

After 30 minutes or so.

It just took 3 of us.

pheeeew.

Linda, I am sure wears tights and a cape,

she just left them at home.

And how was you Thursday?

Anything exciting happen?

Do you have a hero?

We had a wonderful time at the scrap booking Retreat this last weekend. Promise a prize and we would dance like a chick to the Cropping Chickadees song.
anywhere

On Saturday we had "Carnival Day"!
Starting with funnel cakes for breakfast.
And cotton candy, all day suckers, snow cones, popcorn, hot dogs, corn dogs, marshmallow suckers,
circus peanuts and lots and lots of candy.
Balloon animal was the surprise of the day.
Dawn was graduating from clown school on Sunday and used the time to practice her art.

And the rain held off till the cars was loaded.
Thank you Lord!
If you couldn't make it this time, you missed it.
But there will be a next time.
Hope to see you there, Chickadee!

Welcome to THRIFTY THURSDAY.
Last week I had a bird theme.
They both needed alittle "twicking" .
The bird bath, needed a bird, found it at Michael's, and after alittle sanding and sweat, it looks good.
The cage needed a nest and a bird.
A easy fix.
So happy thrifting.

I had a busy day yesterday.

Doctors appointment and shopping for supplies for the upcoming scrap booking retreat.

Jenn and Bill took me here, for the first time.

Yes, I was a Costco virgin.

As I walked into the fresh vegetable cooler, I believe the sky parted and light streamed into the room.

Maybe even a melody of angels sang as we entered.

As the cool air wrapped it's loving arms around me.

But as we were shopping, and in no hurry. My doctor called and wanted to move up my appointment. So we had to rush and leave.

So now I am trying to convince Hubby to buy a membership.

But some how he doesn't get the heaven I was in yesterday.

So I am alittle late for Thrifty Thursday.

But I forgot to take my camera to the shop and capture a picture of this little beauty.
I just got a picture before it sold.
So adding the pearls was just what it needed.

And how is you Wednesday?
Need a laugh?

Why is it so hard for me to get a good picture of the baby.

I can get pictures like these, and I do believe I have enough blackmail pics.
Any pointers?

Let's Bake some Cookies!
I have tried to find a recipe for Tea Cakes for many years.
My aunt Toots and grandmother Doty baked them.
They were YUM!
A good childhood memory.
Grandmother is gone, so the recipe went with her,
Aunt Toots has given me the recipe and it doesn't seem quite right.
She is getting on in years, as my grandmother would say.
So I searched, and tried many times to duplicate these wonderful tea cakes.
I think I have it.
The ultimate test is.....
Daddy.
He says they are darn close.
So here is the recipe.
Enjoy!
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 cup butter, room temperature
2 large eggs
2 2/3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons cream of tarter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon nutmeg
Combine the sugar and butter in mixing bowl, beating until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time. Beating well after each addition. In another bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cream of tarter, salt, and nutmeg. Add to cream mixture and mix well.
Drop by spoonful onto a cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.

It's been a stressful week, to say the least.
Some good, some bad.
Grandson #2 made his first home run in T-ball
and got the game ball.
Bad guys broke into my house,
Mom turned 70,
found some items in the woods where the bad guys fell or culled,
Bad guy came back and peeked in the window at us, oldest grandson saw him,
DD got her licences,
I smelled the wisteria,
we had an event with friend,
good company,
We attended a WONDERFUL EASTER DRAMA
on Sunday.
What a wonderful way to end the stressful week.
(The swag above is from a swap I mailed last week.)

Well, ladies! It is Thrifty Thursday!Today I would like to share a re-do.

I bought the metal fencing at the thrift store. Used it for a year as decoration at the shop.

And now i made a basket out of part.

As you can see below they cane be used in alot of ways.

I thought they were so cute, I made two.

To use of both sides of my back door.

Now all I have to do is come up with flowers and moss to fill them.

I believe the thrift store all well and many junk shops, give un- used items a new life. Maybe not as their intended, but think outside the box and give them a new lease.
